Information for Home Office Lighting
By Donna | April 18, 2008
In your home office or study area, ensure that any office desk-top lighting is not the only source for lighting that is switched on. The main reason for this is because all the other areas in the home office are dark, the desk lamp causes reflections on the monitor, which can affect eyesight quite dramitically.. Information from studys show when our eyes switch back and forth between a bright screen and a dark area, they have considerable difficulty adapting. The best solution for the correct lighting for your home office is to keep a standard brightness, which means that one or more lights are swithched on. The same case applies for large offices in the winter months .

Office Chairs Castors Choice
By admin | September 26, 2007
I was asked by a client if I could find a solution to the big problem they wer having in their office. The type of flooring was allowing their office chairs to scoot about the floor. They were looking at using chair mats, which are not cheap, or very easing to the eye. the best solution for all was to fit bracking castors or rubberised tyred castors.
The bracking office chair castors ensures when the user sits on the chair it does not move. the only draw back with that is if you need to move slightly over to another area of your desk you need to take your weight off the office chair.
The rubberised castors have more grip than your standard plastic castor, and allows movement whilst sitting on the chair.

Why Do I Need A Footrest with My Office Chair
By admin | September 26, 2007
Many users find that when they are seated at the correct working height for their office desk or computer monitor, their feet do not have contact with the floor. While the perfect solution is a height adjustable office desk ( not always affordable ), a good height adjustable footrest is a Quick and Inexpensive solution, which will allow the user to maintain their correct posture.
However this is the only time you should use a footrest, ther is No reason for a taller person to have a footrest, this will cause back pain over time, as the user will put more strain on their back

How to make your Office Furniture Enviroment Eco Friendly while Saving Money
By Donna | August 28, 2007
With the ever-growing emphasis on preserving the environment, many offices are becoming conscious of ways to recycle waste and cut down on energy and paper usage. It’s a little-known fact that in many instances maintaining environmentally friendly practices can actually cut your costs.
* When faxing, use the internal fax in your computer whenever possible. This cuts down on the use of paper (you don’t have to print the fax before sending) and may reduce your phone bill.
* E-mail instead of writing letters when possible. This saves paper and postage.
* Don’t just toss out paper after you’ve used it. See if you can turn the paper over and use the back. If this doesn’t create confusion, you’ll cut down on paper cost as well as help save a tree.
* Before printing out pages designed in your page-layout or word-processing programs, use the “Preview” feature in the software to review for errors or needed corrections on-screen. This can dramatically cut down the total number of pages you need to print out during a day.
* Use special halogen or the new fluorescent bulbs that produce greater amounts of light while using less energy than older fluorescent bulbs.
* Whenever possible, store information on computer disk rather than on paper.
* Recycle everything you can: toner cartridges, waste paper, cardboard boxes, batteries, etc. It doesn’t cost anything.
* When going out for errands, plan ahead so you can make all your stops on one trip. Have one person pick up lunch for everyone.
* Instruct your store area to re-use boxes and wrappings. This can cut costs, as well as help reduce the amount of non-biodegradable trash stored in landfills.
* Turn off computers and other equipment when leaving unused for any length of time. Turn off lights when leaving the room, and set heating and air conditioning to comfortable but energy-efficient levels.
* Don’t just toss out used magazines and books. Consider donating them to libraries or schools. The same is true if you find yourself stacking up outdated computer, office furniture and office chairs. Schools and non-profit organizations can benefit from your contributions.
When it comes to the environment, experts say that every little bit contributes to an overall positive effect. Small businesses employ millions of people in the Uk., so the combined group effort of small business recycling and environmental awareness can produce a significant effect on our planet’s well being.

Office Furniture advice on Laptops
By Alan Ergoman | August 27, 2007
Information about using a Laptop in your Office
o Align the laptop centrally with your body – don’t twist round to use it.
o Take frequent breaks from working on the laptop, and get up and stretch and walk around, at least once an hour and more frequently if possible.
o Change your posture often, whenever it becomes even slightly uncomfortable; don’t stay in one position for more than 15 minutes or so. Adjust your office chair, to allow you to gain the best support what ever task you may be doing.
o Rest your eyes frequently by looking at something far away or by closing them, for one or two seconds.
o Remember to blink more, to prevent your eyes feeling dry.
o Take whatever software training you can because the more skilled you are with the programs you use, the less time you will need to spend on the laptop.
o Do not support the laptop on your lap (because of the heat), use height adjustable office furniture.
o Make sure the laptop is supported and stable and will not wobble or slide as you work.
o Adjust the laptop screen angle (and height if possible) to reduce stretching your neck, and to minimise glare on the screen.
o If possible, if using the laptop for long periods, attach an external full-size keyboard and an external mouse.
o Think before you use the laptop – try to cut down intensive usage because the more you use it, the more likely you are to develop problems.
o If you are sharing the laptop, eg in a teaching session, try to move the laptop round to face each person in turn, rather than each stretch to reach and see it.

Go Ergonomic With Your Office Furniture
By VanTein01 | August 21, 2007
The fact that most working people spend long hours at work in the
If you are a victim of long working hours and any of the above diseases, then it’s time you re-looked at your office furniture and other work conditions. Besides the usual support and refreshments provided to you at work to enable you to cope with immense work pressure, the office furniture is one important element that is usually ignored.
Now, it’s also been found that the office chairs and desks that decorate the work cubicles in UK are not just uncomfortable but don’t really stimulate the atmosphere. As a result, the UK employees in a cross-section of industries have started showing symptoms of orthopedic, musculoskeletal, and cervical disorders. And the lack of proper and ergonomic office furniture has become a serious cause of concern in modern offices.
The structure and modern designs of the office furniture available today lacks from creativity and is grossly unsuitable as ergonomics (the human body structure related design) are not taken into consideration. It’s paramount that whether it is office furniture or home office furniture, the chairs and desk provide a source of stimulation and inspiration to the working class in the UK.
When you decide to go the ergonomic way, you must keep the environment related factors in mind. When buying new office furniture for your home office or work place remember to pay attention to the small but very important aspects of the furniture like the size, the shape, the height etc. You must also have some knowledge about the postures in which you and your employees work for long hours.
Having these factors in mind you will have to choose the right office furniture and which will provide a comfortable, healthy and more stimulating work atmosphere for all employees.

Are you sitting Comfortably in your Office !!!!
By Alan Ergoman | August 15, 2007
For most people, it is quite a challenge to maintain good posture while sitting in an office chair and working for long hours in front of a computer. In fact, a surprising number of people sit at the front of their office chair and hunch forward in an attempt to get closer to their computer screen. Both the abdominal muscles in the front of the spine and the back muscles in the back of the spine work to hold the body erect, like two elastic bands positioned on either side of the spine. Forward leaning posture – hunching forward while sitting in an office chair - distorts this balancing system and places considerable strain on the back.
