Information for Using Office Chairs on Hard Floors
By admin | January 11, 2010
It has been a problem in the past few years, since the old fashioned carpets have been replaced, with laminate, tiled hard floors. The traditional office chairs use nylon castors, these are very dangerous to use in conjunction with the hard floors.
Many manufacturers do not share the information they have to deal with this problem. Many people buy chair mats , which are placed under the chair in the area around the office desks. There are many reasons for not choosing these as a solution to the skating around the floor problem. The area noisy, look like the old fashioned pastic runner, you used to see in your grans house to save the carpets. If you do go down this route you need to ensure that you choose a hard floor, type, which will not slide around after the chair is placed upon it.
The best information and advice I can give you is to order soft castors, the other name is rubberised castors. These work in the same principle as the original castor, but have more grip to the floor. These have been used in the NHS, labs etc., for many years, to provide a safe working enviroment.
You can purchase these either with your office chair or retrospectivly, it is very easy to change them over. Use a claw hammer, to prise the old set off, and the new castors push in to the original base.
The soft castor is ideal for the home office furniture enviroment, where many users, are using a bedroom with laminate flooring. information should be available from all good office furniture companies.
